Little Ducky’s Journal

I won’t let my husband see my blog

One of the things I value a lot in my marriage is that we are completely open with each other while also balancing our need for privacy. We have lived together our entire adult lives. We share an Apple account, fully share finances, and spend the vast majority of time at home together in a small apartment (major homebodies and I work from home). We use the same passcode to our phones and have a shared document with all account passwords. It just makes sense. Not from a “we need access to ensure trustworthiness”, but rather “I don’t care if you use my phone” mentality.

We have no real secrets between us. It would be weird if one of us suddenly became secretive. Of course every relationship is different. If you had a strong adverse reaction to this level of openness, it’s probably because this level of openness means lack of privacy or maybe even lack of freedom. Which is understandable if that is your experience. But we quite literally grew up together. Everything we have we built together.

However, we still value privacy and our individualism. If one of use asks that the other doesn’t go through something, that is respected. I don’t think that would be possible if we hadn’t built a strong foundation of trust over the years.

The two things my husband knows not to look at is the books I read and my blog. I am very easily embarrassed and I don’t want to have to question what he would think of something I read or write. I read dark, taboo, kinky romances. I don’t need him trying to stifle his giggles if he sees me reading Between Two Barbarians by Amy Padilla or Giving Him the Soft Touch He Needs by Becca Vale. I may die from embarrassment.

So no, I will not be showing my husband my blog, even though I am very proud of it. But I do tell him about it and he has encouraged me the whole time.

xoxo, Ducky
